My Curse of Strahd players are nearing the end of their adventure, and I want to transition into a Ravenloft adventure, giving them a cohesive version of the Core that respects the old lore while incorporating the new - a process that will probably take a while. This map is actually the start of a bigger project I've decided to start: updating the lore of the Core to reconcile 5e's canon with where the timeline left off a few editions ago. In fact, I took a couple of liberties to make the map work, changing the overall geography of the Core to keep a cohesive continent possible. Creating a cohesive map turned into a game of Tetris as I tried to force these puzzle pieces together in a way that made them look good. Some domains have changed in shape - such as Valachan being chopped clean in half. Relative to Darkon, domains like Borca have ballooned in sized, while others like Falkovnia and Tepest have shrunk to comparatively tiny sizes. Many domains have dramatically changed in scale in the jump to 5e. I thought it would be a generally easy task, and boy, was I wrong. About a week ago, I had the idea to make a new map of the Core that respected the changes made in Van Richten's Guide while maintaining the shape and general look of the continent in classic Ravenloft.
